POSITION OVERVIEW

The Center for Academic Development (CAD) is a department of UMKC’s Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Initiated in 1973, the CAD, through the integration of theory and practice, develops effective academic support programs to help students realize their full potential. A major component of the Center’s Mission is the retention of students. The Center's services include Supplemental Instruction (SI), Video-Based Supplemental Instruction (VSI), the Math and Science Resource Center (MSRC), the Coaching Program, Upward Bound (a TRIO Program), Jumpstart (an Americorps Program), and the Kauffman Scholars’ Summer Program. The Center is also home to the International Center for Supplemental Instruction, which provides training, support, and networking opportunities for SI professionals and programs throughout the U.S. and around the world. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To assist in the direction of the financial, operational, personnel, and learning activities of the Center for Academic Development (CAD).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A master’s degree in higher education administration, developmental education, or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Four to five years experience in developmental education programs or educational administration is necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate Degree
  • Experience working in a College/University Learning Center
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing successful academic support programs
  • Familiarity with peer collaborative learning models, such as Supplemental Instruction (SI)
  • Experience  hiring, training, and supervising professional, administrative, & student staff
  • Program assessment experience, including proficiency with basic statistics
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience in event planning
  • Experience writing and presenting for professional/educational audiences
