MANAGER, Hispanic Services

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager of Hispanic Services (HS) reports to the Director, Independent Living Programs.  The HS is responsible for providing program implementation, information and referral, systems advocacy, peer counseling and related services designed to help people with disabilities who are Hispanic maximize their opportunities for independent living in the service of area of The Whole Person, Inc.  The HS will serve as a role model and mentor for people with disabilities who are Hispanic within the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ð    Implementation of Hispanic program, including identifying possible funding resources as well as networking within the community

ð    In conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Department, develop sub-part to the strategic plan to outreach to Hispanic’s with disabilities

ð    Provide one-on-one direct services as necessary (the five core services)

ð    Carry out the Philosophy of The Whole Person

ð    Be familiar with resources in the service area for people with disabilities, network with community services, and coordinate services.

ð    Participate in community events and public relation efforts, including public speaking to groups and disability awareness.

ð    Attend staff meetings and participate in developmental opportunities.

ð    Complete The Whole Person forms in a timely and accurate manner.

ð    Work independently and recognize when there is a need to use supervisor as a resource.

ð    Travel as needed

ð    Schedule and manage workload and time.

 QUALIFICATIONS

The HS position requires a broad knowledge and training in a comprehensive field of study providing skills in advocating for people with disabilities and a working knowledge of disabilities and disability oriented issues and/or experience in.

Specific Qualifications include:

·        Bi-lingual in Spanish

·        Effective written and oral communications skills.

·        Public relations.

·        The ability to interact personally with people, businesses and service organizations on all levels.

·        Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

·        Organizational skills.

·        Understanding of and adherence to the philosophy of Independent Living and the Disability Rights Movement.

·        Dependable transportation

·        Computer literate

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

·        Fluent in a secondary international language

·        Personal experience with a disability

·        Two years supervisory experience

 

A relevant Bachelor’s Degree is required (or full time relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis).  Four years experience with program implementation, outreach, marketing, and assisting people with disabilities who are Hispanic.

 

The person must be able to perform the essential function.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
